Den fulde titel på AZI-studiet er: Enhancing Lung Health in Children with Structural Lung Damage and Malformations: Azithromycin (AZI) for Airway Infection Prevention

Can we prevent respiratory infections in young children with structural lung and airway disease?

Children born with lung or airway malformations, or who develop structural lung damage early in life, are particularly vulnerable to recurrent respiratory infections. These infections may lead to hospital admissions, respiratory symptoms and impaired lung health.

TRALULALA-AZI is a nationwide randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigating whether preventive treatment with azithromycin can reduce respiratory infections in children aged 0–6 years with congenital lung and airway malformations or early structural lung damage.

Children are randomly assigned to receive either azithromycin or placebo three times a week for six months during the winter season. The study also investigates respiratory symptoms, hospital admissions, lung function and quality of life.

The study is conducted at the three specialized pediatric pulmonology centers at Rigshospitalet, Odense University Hospital and Aarhus University Hospital.
